Experience
Charles has served as a strategic, legal, and business partner to numerous high-growth companies, including venture-backed start-ups, emerging growth companies, and several unicorns valued at more than $1 billion. His clients operate across industries such as medical devices, aerospace, defense, digital pathology, AI, autonomous systems, extended reality, photonics, and advanced manufacturing.
He advises executives, boards, and investors on growth financing, due diligence, technology valuation, regulatory considerations, and corporate structuring. He has supported equity raises, debt financings, cross-border collaborations, and M&A transactions involving sophisticated technical assets and complex IP positions.
Charles brings practical operating experience to his advisory work. He has served as a director, executive, engineer, and counsel to a range of technology companies. He co-founded both a laser technology company and an augmented reality venture incubated with a team from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He also helped invent, develop, and obtain FDA clearance for innovative dental and medical laser systems in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital.
In addition to his business and corporate experience, Charles has overseen the development of some of the world’s largest and most strategically significant patent portfolios in aerospace and other advanced technology sectors. He has worked with clients to grow portfolios from core filings to thousands of assets and to leverage those assets in financings, partnerships, and enforcement.
Charles is a named inventor on more than 200 patents and published applications. He holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a J.D. from UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law, graduating magna cum laude with a certificate in intellectual property law.
